Should I Stay or Should I Grow??

Last Friday, May 20th, Team Snider finished our Spring 2016 planting!! That was 21 days of everyone here…and on the home fronts…working together, working round the clock many of the days, to accomplish this monumental task.  With few breakdowns or weather delays and much grace from God, granting safety and nary a Murphy’s Law moment, 2980 acres of corn and soybeans  were planted.  Now comes the wait and see months.  The west Michigan spring temperatures were hovering in the mid-50’s for much of our planting time, but since we finished planting, the thermometer has been showing consistent 70’s and last night we had a lovely rain shower that jump started everything into high gear to begin real growth.  Time and the correct conditions will be the key to our crops maturing and coming to fall harvest fruition.  And once again my mind wanders to the fields of life.  We all find ourselves in new and different circumstances often.  I personally like things steady and the same, but that has not been much of an option the last almost 35 years of life with Farmer Snider.  Often the choice for me has been staying in my same attitude/position and insisting that it is just fine as it is, or being flexible and willing to allow growth and change.  I’m not done learning or growing, in life experiences or relationships with family, friends and those I will yet meet.  As do the new crops planted, I battle with times of drought, weeds of life’s inconveniences, things too hot or too cold for my liking and even disease and pests in the seasons of life.  We look forward to a great and bountiful harvest in the upcoming months here at the farm….I also long to grow well in this next time and season given.

  • You are a delight for many reasons but the one most precious to me is because you remind me so much of Joan. (and that is very special to me)
